In addition to the records of the Iowa State Dairy Association and its affiliates, the collection has a second series of records relating to the American Dairy Association which includes annual reports, financial statements, proceedings of annual meetings, and photographs and press releases from national advertising campaigns.

The Iowa State Dairy Association (ISDA) was founded as the Northeastern Iowa Dairymen's Association in 1877. The association was reorganized and renamed the Iowa State Dairy Association in 1891 with the purpose of promoting "the dairy interests within the state of Iowa and everything pertaining thereto and connected therewith."
